The San Remo Channel Challenge is a unique swim/run aquathlon between San Remo and Phillip Island.
The 550m swim starts on the mainland at San Remo and crosses the channel to Newhaven, situated on Phillip Island.
Due to the strong tidal flow that travels through the channel, the swim can only take place on the slack water of the appropriate high tide. The slack water of the high tide lasts approximately fifteen to twenty minutes in which time all competitors must complete the swim.
Once the swim leg is completed, participants enter a transition are where they put on their running shoes, before starting the run back to San Remo.
The 2km run leg travels across the bridge from Newhaven to San Remo, there runners can enjoy the supportive crowd as they sprint towards the finish line.
